What boards are good for G-Land?

Rabu, 22 Mei 2013 | 0 komentar

Here is my quiver I used one season in the G-Land Surf. I'm 62kg, 5'9. Normally at home in NZ I would use a 5'9 thruster in most conditions. For G-Land I usually ride 2" to 10" bigger depending on the conditions. Bringing 3 boards is a great idea to cover for the different wave sizes and incase you break a board. To the right is a 5'11, 6'4 and 6'7. The 5'11 I would surf in 2-4ft waves (up to a bit overhead), the 6'4 in 4-6ft (overhead to double overhead), and my 6'7 is great for 5-8ft (double overhead+).
I also surfed a couple of longer boards. On some of the really big days I rode a 7'8. If you are not really fit it helps to have a board in the 7 or 8ft range. It's certainly not a bad thing having to much length at G-Land.
The waves in G-Land have more power than most waves, and you will find you'll want the extra length, a little bit extra volume, and a strong glass job is recommended. Epoxy boards are great and are less likely to snap, however all the epoxy brands have been seen to break on occasion here.
The tails start as a round tail on the 5'11 right through to a rounded pin on the 6'7. This allows more hold in the bigger waves. Fin placement this season was tri/quad set-ups that allowed me to play around with quad set-ups too. The quads went really well on my forehand in the down the line waves, alot of speed down the line and allowing fast on rail turns. In saying that, as thrusters they went really well too :)

G-Land Surf

G-Land Surf is stereotypically known for its grinding down the line barrels over shallow reef, especially when almost all photo's depict surfers slotted and committed into gaping top to bottom pits. In reality, those photo's are mostly of one section of a very long stretch of reef. When guests stay at GLand there is an abundance of waves on offer, from the grinding left-hand barrels G Land is famous for, all the way down to small hot-dog right-handers.

The waves up the point rarely drop below head high, and flat days are almost unheard of. If the big main point break is too much to handle for your skill level, there is always quality waves further into the bay.

G-Land Bobby's Surf Camp is located directly in front of Money Trees, making the main point break directly accessible, and conditions can be assessed with a quick stroll through the camp onto the beach. To get to 20/20's and Tigertracks you can enjoy a scenic walk through the jungle or beach, although most people prefer to use our transport truck or zodiac with which we offer round trips for just a few dollars.

Photography Service

G-Land gallery,,In camp we have resident surf photographer Dave Thomas and his assistant Norris, along with experience boat captain Allan.

These guys are using some of the best camera equipment available. They shoot a couple times a day from boat and from land, using a Canon 7D with some really good lens'. From the boat they can look straight into the tube, and from land Dave has exclusive usage of some custom built towers to get extra elevation for better shots. Whoever is in their shooting range will have their photo taken. The picture quality is very high and can be turned into poster sized prints even.

In the restaurant (as seen in the photo on the right) guests can browse through all the seasons photos on a big computer screen, or they can go out to Dave's photo studio in the camp and look at photos there too. You can buy your photos from Dave, and he will burn them on to a disc so you have life time memories of your G-Land trip.

Snorkeling & Spearfishing

In camp we offer free usage for snorkel masks and flippers for guests. Dive into the high tide lagoon or if your more game go out to where the waves are and explore the mysterious G-Land reef that creates the amazing waves. See the many fish swimming around and the beautiful coral reef creatures.

in g-land you can fishing, and you know how big the fish you can get.

Bring your spear gun if you enjoy spear fishing! There are some good sized fish nearby and keen spear fishers often come back with some great catches. Our kitchen staff will cook the fish up for you and your table will be dining in style that night.

Entertainment Centre

In our G-Land Surf Camp there is a building which houses 2 pool tables and a ping pong table. On a regular basis the surf guide in camp will have pool tournaments where all the guests and staff are welcome to join in on heated competition. Up stairs is a big movie cinema, which has a really big screen TV, good sound system, sofas, and is sound-proofed with egg cartons! Every night after dinner a new release DVD is played, and anyone can go up and enjoy the cooler air-conditioned climate and wind-down watching a movie.

G-Land Relaxing

At G-land there is no people hassling you to buy things, no thinking about where your going to eat, no need for crazy transport missions to get to the waves, and a feeling like your in a never-never land. Going on holiday is all about getting relaxation time, and in G Land there is no place better. Sunbathe on the beach, take naps after lunch, read books, do crosswords, watch movies, stroll through the jungle, perform yoga, meditate, there is so many relaxing things to do that leaves you totally at peace with yourself.

Just before dawn (when the overland travellers will be just arriving at Grajagan Harbour for their final leg of the journey) our staff pick you up from your hotel and take you to German Beach near Kuta Reef. The G-Land Express fast boat will then depart at sunrise and zip across to G-Land in approximately 2.5 hours, and you'll be in time for breakfast at Bobby's camp.
